If my wife Felicity wasn’t about to give birth then I would be on a plane heading to this conference. We are going to be dipping our toes into Renovaré over the summer at Sanctuary, looking to do more in the Autumn term.
I heard that the Renovaré organisation is about to host an international conference in San Antonio, Texas. U.S.A. on June 21-24, 2009.
For the first time, Richard Foster, Dallas Willard and Eugene Peterson are speaking at the same conference. The conference theme is based on Eugene Peterson’s book ‘The Jesus Way.’ and is focussing on the content of discipleship. Well, you just mentioned 3 of the most significant authors I have engaged with over the past decade — all at the same conference. I can only hope is that there will be recordings of the event! The only guys missing are Stanley Hauerwas and Walter Brueggemann…
Someone, sent me a bit more about what will be going on over the three days…
The theme of this conference is The Jesus Way: recovering the lost content of discipleship. Based on the book of a similar name by Pastor Eugene Peterson, the conference will feature eight general sessions and more than 35 individual workshops, as well as seven The Jesus Way workshop tracks for experienced RENOVARÉ participants – all of which will feature discussions on the Jesus Way as it pertains to various aspects of our lives today, from our own individual walks as disciples of Jesus to the global picture of God’s desire for all people to find common ground and live in harmony.
Sounds good to me.

I find that the word discipleship is thrown around by Christians more than it used to be, which is a good thing, and then you ask those people to spell out the precise content of discipleship and you get a mixed response!
I’m not saying I have all the answers, but we are on an amazing journey of discovery at The Sanctuary about much of the content involved. I hope that by the end of my life I will understand more and have the opportunity to pass it on to future generations!!!
